Prof. Dr. Marijn Janssen is a renowned academic and thought leader in ICT and Governance, serving as a Full Professor at Delft University of Technology, where he heads the Engineering Systems & Services (ESS) Department. He also holds honorary and visiting positions at Bradford University, KU Leuven, and Universiti Teknologi MARA.

With a research focus on Smart and Open Digital Government, AI, blockchain, quantum computing, and the metaverse, Prof. Janssen explores how emerging technologies reshape governance and public systems. He has authored over 600 refereed publications, holds a Google Scholar h-index of 92, and has amassed more than 40,000 citations.

His work addresses how digital innovation intersects with societal challenges, especially in urban environments like Amsterdam, emphasising the need for solutions that integrate technology with citizen values and public trust. Prof. Janssen is a leading voice in understanding the duality of digital transformation, its promises and risks, and in guiding governments toward effective, people-centric innovation.
